On Thursday Associate Health Minister David Seymour is expected to announce new legislation to streamline the approval process and time for medicines already available overseas.
The bill, introduced to Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, creates a new process allowing the Minister of Health to approve medications that have already been fully approved by two of seven specified overseas regulators.
Those are the European Medicines Agency, Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration, Health Canada, the US Centre for Drug Evaluation and Research, the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, Singapore’s Health Science Authority and the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products.
