What lies in store for our health sector after the 14 October election?

We have assembled a panel of speakers with diverse expertise and perspectives on Aotearoa New Zealand’s health system to examine and discuss health policy ideas and initiatives proposed by political parties.

Topics covered will include:

  • Proposals to publicly fund dental services for adults
  • the future of Te Aka Whai Ora (Māori Health Authority)
  • Establishing a voluntary bonding scheme for nurses
  • Exempting fruit and vegetables from GST.

The programme will be kicked off by Tim Tenbensel, Professor of Health Policy, FMHS, University of Auckland, who will give a brief overview of the health policy landscape for this election.

This will be followed by the panel discussion. Panellists are:

  • Paula Lorgelly, Professor of Health Economics, FMHS and Faculty of Commerce, University of Auckland
  • Esther Willing, Head of Kōhatu Centre for Hauora Māori, University of Otago
  • Collin Tukuitonga, Director – University of Auckland Research Centre for Pacific and Global Health, FMHS, University of Auckland
  • Jaime King, Professor of Health Law, University of Auckland.
