The equity adjustor tool should remain in place while ways are found to improve its utility, says specialist GP and former Te Aka Whai Ora clinical director Rawiri McKree Jansen.
“I think it’s disappointing,” Dr Jansen says, “because the evaluation [of the tool by an expert panel] said it is legally justifiable – ethically justifiable – but that it could be improved. And it should be improved.
“So, just dropping it seems a grave disappointment when even Shane [Reti, the health minister] says we should be doing better for Māori.”
