Medical Council working on new guidelines for use of AI

The Medical Council is expected to release new guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence before the end of the year, according to board member Stephen Child.

A guest speaker at the 2025 Goodfellow Symposium, which was held at Auckland’s Due Drop Event Centre on 22–23 March, Dr Child works in the department of general medicine at Auckland City Hospital and is the Southern Cross Health Society’s chief medical officer.

He is part of a working group that has been drafting the new Medical Council regulations on the use of AI in healthcare.
