Ōtara practice confirmed as target of Te Whatu Ora clawbacks

South Seas Healthcare has confirmed it is the practice under threat of closure due to massive clawbacks sought by Te Whatu Ora.

The clawbacks, understood to be more than $15 million, follow an audit of the funding received by the Ōtara-based provider during the COVID-19 pandemic response effort. New Zealand Doctor Rata Aotearoa understands the practice may be forced to close and sell assets to repay the money.

In an emailed statement sent exclusively to New Zealand Doctor, South Seas Healthcare chief executive Lemalu Silao Vaisola-Sefo says the audit report found no misuse of funds “but there are still some areas of disagreement over costs, which we are working with Health NZ to resolve”.
